Cyber Security affects everyone from Business Leaders to School Children, but why do you get hacked if you're not rich? Why do you care?

NARRATOR

The hackers are basically harvesting your identity and your accounts so that they can use them later.

NARRATOR

You might be a student or a bricklayer, but you know people who have access to money and power. It could be your parents, your employer or a friend who got lucky on the stockmarket.

NARRATOR

Most attacks is social engineering - attack the human first.

NARRATOR

You might be expecting a parcel delivery;l you get a text message saying the package is late.

CUT TO:

NARRATOR

2 minutes later you stop to wonder why you have to re-enter your address, phone, email and dog's name for a delayed package.

NARRATOR

Too late - the hackers have your identity now and can use it to attack you on Facebook, Tiktok and LinkedIn. Nothing happens immediately and you think you got away with it.

NARRATOR

Behind the scenese the attackers are now trying to take over your email and cellphone. Once they have those, then they can pretend to be you on just about every account you own from tiktok to your bank. If you're very unlucky then the bad actor might use your identity to to get into your parent's or employer's or friend's netowrk.

NARRATOR

Unfortunately it's not science fiction- that's how the world works today.

NARRATOR

To be really safe you need to give up technology and only use pencil,
paper and replace Netflix with board games...

NARRATOR

In reality nobody's going to do that, so here are some precattions that are
really important and, after a bit of learning, will result in a safer experience
for you.

NARRATOR

There is only one golden rule:

CUT TO:

NARRATOR

Force the bad guys to spend more resources to hack you than anybody else.

NARRATOR

You will be the last one to be hacked!

NARRATOR

How to be safe

NARRATOR

1. Use a password manager

NARRATOR

2. Use a different password for every site. Don't be lazy and use google or
facebook for every site because if that account gets compromised then you lose
everything.

NARRATOR

3. Use 2FA wherever you can. Yes, I know it's a pain.
But it more than doubles the effort required for the hackers to get you

NARRATOR

4. Really Really keep you prime email account secure.
That's where all the password reminders and authentications go.
Lose that and you might lose control of many, many accounts

NARRATOR

5. Remember that your phone cantains more details about you than any other
device. Be really, really sure that you can remote wipe it if you lose it.
Read about `simjacking` to learn about the way your phone number can be used
to steal your identity.

CUT TO:

NARRATOR

6. Be suspicious- Never enter your personal details into a form that feels
unnecssary. Check that the address in the address bar is right.
Checkout the royal mail spooging attacks of HSBC spofing attacks to learn more.

NARRATOR

7. Spend a few minutes every month updating your knowledge.
Learn for 10 minutes a week is eaiser than the 2 years it takes to recover
a stolen identity.
