VC6 (or SMPTE ST 2117) is based on Treee encoding and not transform encoding. This gives it different, CPU friendly properties that make it a good choice for many applications where you need great visual performance, great compression ratios but in a natively cloud friendly, multi-resolution, software-centric package.
