AI in Media Workflows

Session 1 - what is a workflow (20m) ?

  1. Choose a buddy - this needs to be done in groups of 2 or 3
  2. Your team be given a picture, some pens and some post-its
  3. Words will appear on the screen
  4. Write instructions on post it notes so that someone reading them can draw the picture you see
  5. You can ONLY write words displayed on the screen and you cannot draw pictures on the post its.
  6. You can use as many post-its as you need.

Session 2 - what is AI (10m)?

  1. Choose a buddy - this needs to be done in groups of 2 or 3
  2. Your team be given a picture and a sense of hope
  3. As a group we’re going to try and get an LLM AI to draw your picture - we’ll explore how AI works.

Session 3 - Media workflows (15m)?

  1. Whiteboard exercise
  2. We will annotate a media workflow to explore how a live broadcast gets to your screen

Session 4 - Where is AI useful (15m)

  1. We’ll brainstorm workflows where AI might help in media
  2. Captioning & Subtitling
  3. Optimisation of boring tasks (e.g. checking alarms & problems)

Session 5 - Where is AI problematic (15m)

  1. We’ll brainstorm how existing AIs have been trained
  2. What sort of tasks will LLM AIs never be good at

Session 6 - Workflow vs Automation & things to try at home (15m)

  1. Cloudinary tool
  2. AWS rekognition tool
  3. Media preservation vs media enhancement
    1. Google photos - unblur, background removal
    2. Google Veo - bring stills to life
